Hi K Z,
I once asked a mate of mine who had a Phd in Philosophy.
(This is in the days before you could do Phd's in joined-up writing )
And HE said "you don't know"
As I said, he was a Doctor of Philosophy IN Philosophy.

Perhaps I am . . .

But if that is true, then my dreams aren't really an escape from my reality . . .

Which, of course, would be very detrimental to my well-being!

You don't. All things being equal, it is impossible to know anything. At one point in time, all the brightest minds in the world thought the world was flat. Until somewhat recently, we thought the atom was the smallest thing on earth until someone managed to split it open. For all we know, our entire life as we know it is actually a freakin coma.

Yes there is a satisfactory answer to the question.. Can you see any colours in your line of vision? Yes - you are awake. Dreams are monochrome.

I wonder that ALL the time. Like some of my dreams are so lifelike. I would ask the same question and be like "NAAAH it feels so real" but then it's a dream. So what if this is a dream nowwwwww?

I'm very tired, and I know that I could go to sleep and dream (also, if you are reading this, I'm playing on my computer, which I've never known myself to do in my sleep).
