Hi Matt. I am a retired Chiropractor.
As you can see from some of the answers to your question Chiropractic can be a challenging profession. It can also be very rewarding on a personal level. Patients tend to 'love their Chiropractor' much more often than they 'love' their other health care providers.
On a financial level, many Chiropractors struggle to make a solid living, while others do very well. Several factors come into play that determine financial success.
First, to be successful you must be able to attract patients- you have to be willing and able to market yourself and your practice to the public.
Second, you must be able to successfully help those patients - so you need to work very hard to develop sound clinical skills. Chiropractic is a highly skilled profession; requiring high level physical examination skills and Chiropractic adjusting skills (not to mention excellent people skills). Some doctors are 'good at it' and some aren't.
Third, the state and city in which you choose to practice can have a major impact on your practice's success. Many states (e.g. California) now are dominated by 'Managed Care' systems. These severely interfere with patient care and the finanicial reimbursement level for an office visit to a Chiropractor can be less than many hair dressers charge for a haircut.
Finally, I would like to suggest that you spend some time with your family Chiropractor. Pick his/her brain about the profession. Most D.C.s are happy to help future members of our profession.
Best wishes and good luck.
P.S. All of the schools you have listed are excellent schools. You may also want to look into Palmer Chiropractic College and Los Angeles College of Chiropractic (my alma mater).

I believe chiropractic is a great profession to get into. I am interested in becoming a chiropractor myself. Look into Palmer...he's the man who started it all! Personally with my current internship at a chiropractic office I have seen many great things and chiropractic being able to help in ways that most people overlook. From the typical lumbar and cervical problems to lessening the seizures of small children, and much more. I think that chiropractic is interesting and more people need to believe in its miracles. Try to contact an office in your area to do some shadowing to see if you really are interested. Don't listen to the nonbelievers they are just afraid to try it for themselves.

Just saw one for the first time in Feb. Back problems. I actually need surgery..but the chiropractor was a well educated man who was very knowledgeable and told me he could only do so much for my condition. I like honesty! Go for it..Chiropractors work wonders for some people. Find a few in your area who you feel comfortable in asking questions.
I just told my 14 yr. old son to check into the profession. He wants to study biochemistry. Good luck.

Chiro can and does work.
Unfortunately, my Doctor was more interested in the Almighty Dollar, thus, He controlled my situation.
When I was improving, he 'adjusted' me so I would revert. I finally wised up and when I was better, I canceled all of my appointments. It has been 20 years and I have never gone back.
Can you enter this profession with the intention of helping people? My doctor professed to be a Christian, thus his practice improved.
If you honestly believe in helping others, you could do well in this. Just don't get caught up in the BIG bucks or it could bring you down.

Check the entry in "the skeptics dictionary" on chiropractic before you think too hard about that. Apparently there isn't any proof it works for more than a few specific problems. I don't know myself.
