I live in Southern Alberta, Medicine Hat to be specific and we seen one of these bugs in the basement I'm just wondering if someone can fill me in on what kind it is. (I showed someone else and they said it kind of looks like a cockroach)

It's not a cockroach--cockroaches have long, obvious antennae--but a beetle of some sort. Check the link and narrow it down from the photos.

they aren't perfect pictures, but it looks more like some kind of beetle than a cockroach. Just search yahoo.com for photos of cockroaches and see if they match your bug.

First, a cockroach has wings and long antennae. i think of its a style of beetle. possibly a popping beetle. you will understand if it falls over on it is back. it is going to arch up, and pa up (in basic terms a sprint) to teach itself over. innocuous.
