I am getting a new range hood to take out the smell in my house, am i getting ripped off?

Question

It is a range hood with a cfm of 950 cfm, custom made, install, tax and everything for a total of $1,000. Please tell me if i am getting ripped off.

When you said custom made, who can say? We don't know the work involved and how detailed the new range hood is or even what material it is made from.

It would seem to be inline but there is no way for us to really tell.

sounds like a lot of money to me. If you already have a hood then I dont know what a new one is going to do for you.

Perhaps you should get some cleaning agents and clean the inside of the hood as well as the flute at the roof level.

Remember that smoke and grease is what has been traveling up with the aid of your fan ... A good cleaning is not going to cost $1000.00.

Call Molly Maids and tell them to get busy!!

Could be, I would remove the old one and clean the heck out of it with Oven Cleaner and put in a new charcoal filter. It is metal, so the only odors would be old grease which oven cleaner cuts very well, Heck even a steamer cleaner will work too. Steel don't stink, just the people who says it does.You may have to clean the exhaust pipe too if you have one. Old grease does smell, Just clean it, check the restaurants to see who cleans the exhaust fans.

I used to be in the restaurant business for a number of years. Your range hood not only needs to be vented, but it needs to be cleaned from the roof end of the exhust flue. Also clean or change your filters regularly.

well it depends if its vented or not and if the old one was, i would hope that its getting vented outside for a 1000 dollars and there are a few problems and how hard it would be to get the vent out side
