People don't really learn anything properly until there is a problem, until we make a mistake, until something fails to go as we had hoped. When everything is working well, with no problems or failures, whhat incentive do we have to try something new? We are motiveated to learn only when we experience difficulties.
So my question is: Does true learning occur only when we experience difficulties?

False. I've learned a considerable amount from many people who have made mistakes. I have not had to make those mistakes on my own. Therefore your premise is flawed by likely applies to yourself.

My friend, giving all the respect to you and your question, I will do my best to answer your question.
For the most part you are correct. The smallest mistake can cost you your life though. The lesson that is learned here is for "others" not to make the same mistake. This is a general question because it can be broken down into several parts. The largest mistakes will have the biggest impact on your life and the smallest will have the least impact. Anything you try to do for the first time, expect to make mistakes, it don't matter what it is. There is no one on this earth that is perfect. Always remember there is nothing wrong with making a mistake, as long as you learn from it, and it don't cause you to loose your life. The mistake you make that takes your life is a mistake that was not studied, planned well enough far in advance. Yet, again there is common sense that should be used also.
I hope I answered your question .
GOD BLESS YOU and take care of yourself.

IDK, I think the question is much too general.

In a general situation, normally , we go by the experiences of the others .There are great individuals who donot accept such "standard experiences" and they do extra ordinary aditinal work to go beyond the accepted norm. here there is no failures or problems . Only discovery is involved.

As for the others like you and I , when we take on a thing we donot think of a problem or difficulty . we donot know what to expect. As we go along we encounter situations and we overcome those. These cannot be called "mistakes" or "failures" . Whe a child tries to get up and walk for the first time do you say that the child has made a mistake? No.

A mistake is something that is different in relation to a standard accepted norm. A problem is something that stops us at a point where we donot know how to go about next..

True learning occurs when we find ways to find a solution.

True learning occurs best when it is difficult yes, but I think you can still learn life lessons by watching someone else make the mistake or by being able to conceptualize it yourself. Difficulties force a person to either face the truth of the lesson or deny it by the difficulty being unavoidable and emotionally or physically threatening to that person, if they're caring then it may be someone else. With all our material possessions and escapes from reality in the modern world, it becomes increasingly easy for people to avoid true learning which is good in that people don't suffer as much but sad in that by not learning important lessons they hurt others more but sorry for going off track.

No. Having a problem to solve and making a mistake are not synonymous. But learning can occur in the absence of either, by process of introspection or deductive reasoning. Motivation can be found in the mere suggestion of a question to be answered.

Learning is inevitable. We are in constant learnig everyday. Even when we do the same thing over and over, we still learned something different. So obviously when we make a mistake, we learned by expirience the ways of not doing something. So after mistake over mistake and process of elimination we learned after the best properly way of doing things.

Um, considering this is an SAT essay prompt during a previous SAT, i think it'd be best if I give you some examples from books.
Best book would be "the Power one One", where a kid named Peekay faces MANY diffculties and overcomes his weaknesses and becomes a champion boxer and pianist. Also, you can use history- how we learn history courses in school in order to avoid those mistakes that were made in the past.

True. We only really want to learn something when we have a personal incentive to. It's kinda like: why go to college if youre not that ambitious and just wanna get a job and do something to get a check?

True learning occurs, when we have an open mind and are looking for solutions. If true learning only occurred when we face problems or failures, we have a problem being flexible and intuitive.

We learn best when we are out of our comfort zone, and our faced with difficulty. This is true in life as in school. If education is made to be fun, then nothing will challenge your expectations. To truly learn and grow, you must be challenged, and made to question your own assumptions, and work beyond your self imposed limits.
