Okay so I brought this little darling home from the pet store. And when I finally integrated her into the tank, I thought "wowsa! That's a pregnant fish!" Compard to my other sunburst Molly, she's big. So I bought a breeding contraption and got prepared, but it's been 3 weeks and she was seemingly huge to begin with and now I am starting to wonder.

Thought I would ask you all.

So, whatcha thinK??

Fat fish?

Or pregnant??

And any advice on it would be great too if she is pregnant. I am nervous that I catch her in time to give birth away from the community tank. EEK!

Thanks in advance!! ;)

Here is the link with the picture of her on the left, compared to the other Molly on the right.

Well actually she is a live bearer, doesn't lay eggs. And I do have a breeding tank for her. But the thing is her belly is swollen, and dark dark. The picture doesn't do it justice, or maybe I am paranoid! Ha. But anyway, thanks guys and PLEASE keep the answers coming. LOL

all female livebeaerer are pregnant when you get them, dont forget that female livebearers store sperm so she can reproduce without a male.

she is pregnant but not to the point where she is going to drop soon.

Remember that female livebearers are on a cycle of 28-35 days. So around that she will drop/

P.S you dont always have o see a gravid spot, that is just a guidline. Dont forget that on some fishes with dark coloration you cant see it, so the gravid spot remark is not always correct.

One, your fish is a platy, not a molly.
A molly looks like this: http://www.fishyfriendsaquatics.co.uk/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/tmpphpoqhnb8.jpg

Your fish is definately pregnant. She will give birth when there is a definate corner on her belly and she is big. Sometimes breeders stress out the fish so they wait to have their babies. I just let my mollies have their babies in my tank (my most recent one had babies at 6:00 am in the morning and I woke up at 8:00 am!) and the weak get eaten (they usually die in a day or two and infect the others) and the lively and strong are left to hide. I usually gather these up and place them in a plastic breeders box. Feed them crushed flakes with pleco disk dust (if you have a pleco because it is optional) or baby food from the petstore. Feed six times a day and clean often. I have been sticking the box under the filter for a while so the water gets cleaner in the box and it helps the babies get stronger about once a day for a few seconds. Then I feed them for the night and then give them more in the morning. Don't fret if she has babies in the tank and you are left with two or none! They keep unhatched eggs for about 6 months and have babies every month with out being exposed to a male. Have fun and watch your platy closely! (She'll most likely be pacing in a corner or something in a hidden area right before she has her babies!)

She needs to have solitude, a place where other fish won't bother her. When our guppies were ready to give birth they liked to hide behind things, like plants and driftwood. She also needs to have the water temperature just right. It should be between 24 and 27 degrees Celsius. If she does not give birth in the breeding contraption, look along the bottom of the tank for the babies. Especially in the corners and plants. They are very tiny, so look hard! Good luck!

I don't think she is pregnant, they get a lot fatter, and you can see a gravid spot which we be darkened at the end of her stomache, usually you can sometimes see eyes in it. She may be in an early stage of pregnancy, but she is not very far into it.

oh yeah, molllys.... i had 3 once, and one gave birth to like 25 babies. they are pretty much all healthy as far as i know, with my bio teacher! its sooo cute when they have babies cuz they are the tiniest little fish! they all just swim around and are really cute. crush up the fish food really small so they can eat it. the mom will probably die like ours did a week later :( but the babies are very fun and grow quickly. good luck i hope she is pregnant! even though it was a complete surprise to us.. haha a week after we bought her they popped out! we were very confused lol.

Yep, she looks pregnant to me. Given that normal gestation is about 28 days and you have had her for three weeks, I would suggest she is at least tot he 3 week mark and could deliver at anytime.

i cant really tell from the picture....but try to look for small black dots in the belly. If there were black dots, then it means that the molly is pregnant.
