Some say last season was possibly one of the best in his career (based on his level of play, not just on how many records he broke). On the otherhand, some say his performance in the playoffs was an indication that he is slowing down.

What are your thoughts? Do you think Marty will put up better or worse numbers than he did in the 2006-07 season?

I'm thinking the will be the beginning of the end for Brodeur. He doesn't have the defense in front of him, plus the fact that he will be playing his home games in the Prudential Center will disrupt his comfort zone.

Marty is fine, i think that he forgot about his age during last season, he Played far to many games and literally wore himself out. And dont forget New jersey was outplayed in the playoffs, and yes marty let a few bad ones in but he made some great ones too... Brodeur i believe is still the best goalie in the game today and arguably the best to ever stand between the pipes... and all this from a Pittsburgh fan who hates the devils almost as much as the flyers lol

There is no reason to think Marty wont do just as good in the regualr season as he did last year. He was a bit off in the playoffs, but i dont see how people are sayign he is past his prime when he did all that in the regular season. Now with Weekes as his back up he wont be playing the crazy amount of games he did last eyar and i bet hes going to have just as good as season as last year. The only difference will be that he wont be burned out when the play offs comes so expect him to be amazing. The thing is that any goalie whether 21 or 35 will be tired after playing 78 games in the regualr season so if that was the reason for his avergae play dont think he is over the hill, hes not one bit...

i think most of the people who are saying he is over the hill are hopefulyl wishing that he is. For years he has stopped the Atlantic Division and most of the rest of the NHL from beating the devils so i think a lot of people are hoping hes gone soon.....sorry to break it to everyone but hell be around for another 4-5 years at least

A bad year for Marty would be a career year for most goalies in the league. He's easily the most consistent and talents player between the pipes.

His number may be worse next season, but that will be more a result of the team in front of him. He still has 3-5 good seasons left and several of Roy's records to break! ;)

Since 97-98, Brodeur has played a minimum of 70 games per season including 78 games last year.

He is 35, if the Devils want to keep him for another 4-5 years they will need to get him a decent backup, no Scott Clemmensen.

Unlike Brodeur, Patrick Roy never played more than 67 games and that was in 92-93 with the Habs. It's not that much of a difference, but if your team makes the playoffs (IE: Devils last year) and you played 78 games plus you're playing in ALL of your team's playoffs game, 60 minutes per game, you are going to get tired mentally and physically.

So, is he slowing down; yeah of course he's getting older. Will it get better this coming season, doubtful unless Big Lou gets him a good backup and he can take a rest and play a maximum of about 65-70 games.

Oh, and he will beat Roy's record of 551 wins over the next 2 seasons.

well, marty faced 2 greatly offensive teams, i agree that his performance wasn't good! but i will tell you exactly what went wrong!

He was Fatigued ( tired) of playin 78 games! so in the playoffs, he slowed down! hes pretty old! Luongo's performance in the playoffs was just as bad as brodeur, y? because he played 76 games!

Next year, marty has a descent backup and will be able to rest for the post season!

He should have won the Hart!!!!in the playoffs, the devs defense didnt do shi** making giveaways in almost every game and playing undisciplined taking penalties!

He had a great season last year, but near the end you could tell he was getting burnt out. This is what happens when a goalie plays 77 or 78 games every year. He can't possibly do much better this coming season, but he'll still put up solid numbers, though the defense in front of him normally helps him out quite a bit.

My prognostication: 43-24-9.

Look, without the Scotts (Niedermayer and Stevens), Brodeur was forced to actually earn his keep. That wore him out for the playoffs. Honestly, I like Brodeur a lot but really...he plays in the Least. There are not a lot of tough teams there anymore.

Martin Brodeur played great in the season and the post season the only reason they losted in the playoffs was because they could not score any goals.

I think he is a premier goaltender. He works hard every game, and he never gives up on any shot. The Devils defense crumpled in the playoffs, and when your defense falters, that puts you in a position you aren't comfortable in. Now that they lost their top defenseman, he will have to do more, but he will have practice in the off-season. I do agree that he did not play his intimidating self in the playoffs. I think he will continue to be a great goaltender and possibly a legend.
