He lives in a ten gallon tank with filtration and a heater, has other types of fish in the tank, no fungus, fin or eye problems, and I've had him about 8 months and he was fine up untill about two weeks ago. He just stays at the top of the tank in one corner and kind of floats there. Doesn't even react much if I tap the glass. Any ideas???

Do you ever do partial water changes to keep the tank and fish healthy? You should be changing 30% of the water every week or the ammonia, nitrites and nitrates will eventually build up to toxic levels and kill your fish. Bettas are usually the first to feel the effects unless you have neons, they are a very delicate fish.

Those are the first signs of poor water quality for a betta. Soon he will lose his color and stop moving altogether. Then he will die. Do a 50% water change right away and try to tempt him with some frozen adult brine shrimp or bloodworms. He might come around.

Bettas are typically about 8-10 months old when purchased in a store. You can expect them to live another 4 years with good care and a high protein diet. They are carnivores in the wild.

That is not a good sign. He sounds seriously ill and could be a source of contagion to other fish in the tank. If you have small isolation tank you could try putting him in there and keeping an eye on him to see if he recovers or worsens.

How old is your betta? I hate to say this, but they don't live all that long. You hear stories of them going for 4-5 years, but they typically don't last much longer than 2-3.

Do check your water quality, just to be sure, but it could be he's just nearing the end of his journey. I'm sorry.
