The simplest mantra is "Waste not, want not."

That means recycle, don't drive too fast, or too often or too far, and a whole lot of other things. Just turning off that light when you leave the room saves electricity and the lifespan of the light. This reduces pollution from the power plant, and the electrical usage. Since electricity is hard to store power plants make it to fit the demand.

Making shorter trips, combining your errands, and walking when you can or using an alternate means of transportation are just one of the small ways that you can help the environment. The point is that if a lot of people do the little things as a habit then it can make a big difference. You don't have to move to Arizona and switch everything to solar power to reduce your carbon footprint, or to help the environment.

The first thing you need to do is to be conscious if how what you do affects the environment.
To help preserve the environment, start by conserving energy around your home. Switch to energy saving lightbulbs, turn off lights in unused rooms. Recycle plastics, paper, and even glass. Consider getting a compost pile, and plant some trees. On the road- be efficient. Consider carpooling, or if it's not that far, just ride a bike.

Every little thing does a lot.

There is SO much you can do!

Take a bike or jog instead of using your car.
Pick up any trash you see laying around on the streets.
RECYCLE!
Choose energy-efficient appliances
Use CFL lightbulbs.
EAT LESS MEAT! (There is a reason for this, I'm not just pulling this out of thin air. Livestock creates 65% of human-related nitrous oxide [296 times stronger than CO2 over 100 years] and 64% of ammonia [2 very significant causes of acid rain], which causes even more deforestation.
)
Turn off your TV and other appliances when you're not using them.

Don't have kids, don't eat meat, tell everyone you know to go to www.getcheaperpower.com and sign up for a free solar power generator system ( no joke) get in touch with your govt.representative and demand they wake up and support bills to stop global warming, recycle everything including clothing etc., join freecycle.com in your area, turn off stuff you aren't using, make sure your car tires are inflated properly - if we all did this we could save 1.2 BILLION gallons of gas a year in the US alone.....don't listen to these idiots that say you can't make a difference you most certainly CAN !!!!

yes there are a lot of things you can do like: shutting off lights after leaving a room, get the energy saving light bulbs, fill a tub of water to wash you dishes insted of leaving the water on to wash one item because keeping the water on wastes more energy, wash more dishes by hand insted of using a dishwasher and there is even more you can do do some research to find out more.

Don't worry about it. This is a liberal, fanatical preoccupation, and a dangerous distraction from the real problems that we face (such as an actual enemy that wants to destroy us).

That's why it's so vitally important to not elect a Democrat into office. Heaven forbid if we'd have ever gotten that lunatic, Gore.
