I remember when I was in 5th grade I got to stay home by myself and sometimes watch my brothers. I think I really got to start watching people's kids around 7th grade.
If you want people to take you seriously then when you ask them if one night they would like to take a night off and you watch the kids that you would be more than willing and that you will make sure you have emergency numbers close by and at hand. Ask them what a suitable dinner is for the kids, their bed times and what they are allowed to watch and so forth. Make it seem like you have everything under control and you know exactly what you want to do and know how to do. Also set a good rate. Enough money for you to have but not overcharging the parents. Depending on the kids and how many hours they will be gone is depending on the rate.
Good Luck and hope you get the job!

I started babysitting when I was 11 and I'm 16 now. Parents are looking for older individuals to watch their children because more familys have both parents working, so the kids need rides places, or they just feel safer with an older person. What could help you alot in getting a babysitting job is, first of all, to become certified in a red cross babysitting course... parents love that. Next, start by babysitting siblings, family members, or neighbors, and they can give you referances when your looking for another babysitting job. But dont worry, you'll find a job soon.

It's not your chronological age but how you react in emergencies and making decisions. If you have classes in your area (our local hospital has them) take the classes and you will have a better chance of being taken seriously. If you can handle emergencies without freaking out and make decisions about when you can handle something and when you can't and know how to get help, that will go a long way too.

I don't think you are to young, if you can get a first aid certificate and cpr then i don't see why not as long as the kids aren't like 10 or new born
