do the pipes appear in the blueprints of the home?

You can get copies of the blueprints (i.e. plans) from the builder. If you don't know the builder, then try the building permit department of your city or county government.

No, pipes generally do not appear on residential plans despite what the previous answers say. Only the locations of fixtures requiring pipes show on the plans - leaving it up to the plumbing subcontractor to locate the pipes in the most efficient manner.

assuming your house was built in the past few decades, building department likely has the approved plans.

for older houses, there likely aren't any. Builders had 'em once, but they're likely long gone now.

Btw, approved plans aren't always what is actually built. Anything that meets code can be substituted, so those pipes might not be where the plan says they 'should' be.

City or county building departments generally keep a set and yes, they do appear in schematic form in the blue prints.

However, you better check anyway, because plumbers sometimes move them from one place to another.
