Republicans are pro-business. Republicans believe in lower taxes for the wealthiest (even if the result is government deficit spending) in the belief that the wealthy will invest that money in the stock market and businesses will hire more people with the additional investment. Republicans do not believe in environmental regulations that can cause businesses to spend more money to keep pollutants out of the air. Republicans believe in government regulation of peoples lives (such as abortion and laws against gay people).

Democrats believe in higher taxes for the wealthiest to redistribute the wealth in the form of government services such as welfare and government subsidized housing for those living in poverty. Democrats believe in environmental regulation and a cleaner environment, even if businesses have to install equipment to release less pollutants into the atmosphere. Democrats believe in less government interference in peoples personal lives (such as laws allowing abortion and laws protecting people from discrimination).

There are gays of both political parties, as well as those who are independent and belong to neither party. Gay people who are Democrats hope that their influence in the Democratic Party will do something to better their lives, while gay people who are Republicans hope that their influence in the Republican Party will do something to not worsen their lives.

Democrats will usually say that they will work to help gay people, but usually do nothing. Republicans say that they will work to burden gay people, but usually do nothing.

Politicians, either Democrat or Republican, will usually only work on legislation that benefits their political donors that pay for their reelection committees.

Politics are not fun. They're flamebait. :(

Wikipedia gives a pretty good description of both parties. The majority of GLBT people I know are Democrats. The reasons vary with the person but in no small measure are helped by the fact Repubs in general service a core christian fundamentalism that doesn't take kindly to GLBT people or GLBT-related issues at all.

Really, both parties are seriously busted. And last election it was brought up that Kerry (demo) & Bush (rep) were related, which IMO is beyond disgusting.

Both parties totally suck! They say whatever gets them elected and then when they do get elected, they give themselves pay raises and go on long vacations. Nothing gets done and they all lie through their teeth. This country needs a viable third party to put pressure on the other two. It probably will never happen due to special interest groups that keep both parties in power. We really need a complete overhaul. Throw everyone out and start over!

democrats and republicans are hard to define. others have given pretty good descriptions of what each party "claims" to represent. a careful look and you'll realize each party tries to redefine itself every 4 yrs with the presidential election (and the differences between them seem to get smaller and smaller every 4 yrs). for instance, does the republican party of say nixon compare with the republican party of regan, or george w. bush? not really. they were each different with different agendas. same is true of johnson, carter and clinton. each party undergoes a complete redefinition every 4 yrs. the key to winning an election is how much your opponent can smear you. that's what american democracy has devolved into.

Gay people tend to be democrats in my experience, but there are many LGBT who are republicans. one thing i've noticed recently is there seems to be more people (including LGBT) who are not aligning themselves with any one party.

There is a minority of gays that vote (R). I guess they disapprove of their own nature.

There is no difference between the two parties. They both suck on an equal level.
