It depends on how far in the baby is. Most dopplers say 12 weeks at home, but I would recall it was after 20 weeks for me. Some people never hear it on their home dopplers.
Good luck!

The heartbeat is usually detectable by doppler at 12 weeks. Sometimes, you can detect it a bit earlier; I heard my baby's heartbeat loud and clear at about 11 1/2 weeks. It depends partly on your build - my doctor said being thin helps, because there is less "padding" to get through.
(based on what other people have said about never being able to hear it... I might consider renting one instead of buying, so that you can give it back if it never seems to work)

I bought one from Target and I was 28 weeks along before I could hear the heartbeat. My best friend bought the same one and never could hear it.

It depends...if its the kind you buy at the store like the bebe sounds one, you have to be pretty far, like 25 weeks or more...if its the kind you can rent like the one the dr uses, you should be able to hear it after about 12-14 weeks...good luck
