Well, we don't have much money to spend for a horse, and it would be nice to give these horses good homes as it is. And I'm not finding these sites like I thought I would. Soooo.....I thought that maybe someone could help me out on finding some sites. Thanks!

-CANTER...there are a couple different ones, you'll have to search, if you are experienced with horses they are for OTTBs(Off the Track Thoroughbreds)
-LOPE - in TX, another OTTB group
-there are a few other ex-racehorse specific groups, not sure of the names though
-there are also local groups in many places
-local auctions, but it can be a crap shoot getting a horse without much known history

However, you also must realize that the purchase price of the horse is only the tip of the iceburg...maintaining the animal is the costly part of owning a horse. Feed, hay, deworming, board, medical supplies, basic grooming supplies, tack, vet care, dental care, hoof care...these are ongoing expenses and horses have a way of finding the most inopportune times to hurt themselves and it can be financially draining if one gets sick or hurt. You may find just taking riding lessons, volunteering at a barn or possibly leasing less costly that actually going out and getting a horse.

Most people think the price of the cost of the horse alone is the worst part but it's not true. Even if you can find a horse for under $1000, in the long run with all the vet bills, shoes, tack and food it will add up to being more than the horse actually cost.
Anyway if you really think you can handle it...
You can find a bunch of horses for pretty cheap sometimes.. especially around the Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma areas.
Go to google and type in something like "Horses for sale in.. (your state) and websites will come up.
Here's some horses in Kansas you can take a look at :

2. http://www.equinehits.com/horses-for-sale/kansas-ks/\
3. http://www.equinenow.com/kansas.htm

Horses are worth quite abit of moeny so they normaly dont give them away, even if the horse is dead its worth money (rendering).
Maybe you could find mules and if your lucky ponies for free but no one would give a horse away

good luck
