yes this malfunction has tripped a ECM code it will be PO122 and PO123 this is a TPS circuit malfunction the TPS is the ONLY circuit that will cause your transmission to only shift when u let out of the gas shift solenoids will not shift regardless when malfunctioning on the 2000 cavalier tranny

it does sound like a possible solenoid or a throttle position sensor you will have to tell us the code before we can advise you should also know that transmission fluid is a detergent style fluid which cleans as it lubricates, if you have excessively dirty transmission fluid and you service the transmission the dirt and grime that was removed could have been holing burnt clutches together inside your transmission whitch could be slipping this is always a possibility when servicing a transmission and should be explained to customers prior to performing the service

go to your nearest parts store and see if they will run the code , most of them will run it for free becuase them think you may buy the parts it is saying is bad or if yoy had the work done at a service shop take it back to them and tell them what it is doing after them change it, it also could be the linkage is now moved some this will cause some wierd thing but not real bad thing to happen

Unfortunately you got sold on a job that shouldnt be done on high mileage vehicles as one of the previous answers said. It takes out the grime that was making it work properly. It sounds stupid but I have seen it many times.

Get the kickdown cable adjusted it's to tight it's holding trans in second gear to long.

sounds like a shift solenoid, not working...go to advanced auto parts and have computer scan ran...and have it checked out...most people ignor the check engine light...but it's function is to let you know something is wrong...and needs to be checked...
