that would mean it would be the future after 2007, bc the books if you research enough were actually to take place in the 1990's so therefore, harry would have graduated in the spring of 1998 and if you add 19 years to that its 2017 which hasnt even occured yet..can someone explain this to me lol...

The author knows. It's her story. She knows the past, present and future of the characters she creates. Be glad she chose to share it with you.

Rowling doesn't describe anything about what can be seen in the muggle portion of King Cross Station before Harry, Ginny, and the kids pass through the barrier to Platform 9 and 3/4s, so she doesn't risk contradicting anything that may happen ten years from now. And it's not impossible for authors to write about the future without a clue as to what will happen.

I was surprised when I saw the dates on Harry's parents graves in the seventh book. I always thought the books were supposed to be taking place in the present but it turns out that Harry started Hogwarts in 1991. I don't think you need to worry about the fact that the epilogue takes place in 2017 it is just a book but since you ended your question with "lol" I'm sure you already knew this and you just wanted to ask a question.

It's a WORK OF FICTION.....

fic·tion –noun 1. the class of literature comprising works of imaginative narration, esp. in prose form.
2. works of this class, as novels or short stories: detective fiction.
3. something feigned, invented, or imagined; a made-up story: We've all heard the fiction of her being in delicate health.
4. the act of feigning, inventing, or imagining.
5. an imaginary thing or event, postulated for the purposes of argument or explanation.
6. Law. an allegation that a fact exists that is known not to exist, made by authority of law to bring a case within the operation of a rule of law.

Therefore it's made up and not real, so one could assume that she wasn't trying to pull one over on you and that you should not put so much thought into it.

Would it matter if the whole thing was set in 2017? There are plenty of books set in the future.

Lol. Pure coincidence and highly irrelevant. It was just to show, life goes on, people are still coming and going from Hogwarts and All is well. 2017 has nothing to do with it.

You know it because JK Rowling the author told you. I hate to break this to you, but none of the books actually happened. It's called fiction.

the author dosent need to wait for time to pass just so she cant tell you want happens nineteen years later. It is just a book and it just tells what happened to harry. it dosent have to be up to date. Plus its nineteen years in the future I think.

Darling, don't waste your time on the timeline. It's not a historical enterprise. Would it matter if it hasn't happened yet? I mean, the entire series is FICTION, 99% of what happened there is not logical. So the timeline should be the least of your worries.

Enjoy reading!

Seeing as this is all fiction, it's okay that it is set in the future. J.K. Rowling knows what happens because she created it.
