Just found out that {someone} I know is married to their second cousin. They have been married for quite some time now and they sound like they are happy. They do have children together, but I wonder if they will be telling their kids the {truth} about their being related. What are your thoughts or opinion on this {kind} of relationship?

The couple in question are related as follows; the the mom is the guy's first cousin and he married her daughter so they are considered second cousin right? The girl's granfather is guys uncle because the guys dad is brother to the girls grandfather. Understand! So they are blood relatives.

Personally, I don't see anything wrong with second cousins because the chance of genetic defects is much lower than you'd think (even w/ firsts it's only 8% higher than normal but with that I'm more iffy). They do have an obligation to tell their kids, but hopefully you and others won't hold the couple's relationship against them.

I have a large family with around 60 or so first cousins and maybe a couple hundred second cousins. Anyway, accidently I married someone well outside the family tree. Point is mine's a pretty big gene pool. Maybe {someone} also has a very large family.

As far as I know, there are no laws preventing marriages between second cousins and I don't think they have anything to be silent about with respect to telling their children of their ancestory. The children will ask anyway.

uh yeah...why not? If they are cousins by marriage and not blood line there is no chance of problems. Even if thru blood line, a second cousin is far enough apart that any risk of defects is as low as two strangers having kids. Recent research has actually shown that the old concerns about close family marrying is not near as significant as we once thought..err...with the exception of brothers/sisters...which is a whole other kettle of fish...

It's a bit too close for my taste, but as long as the children are healthy, and their marriage is good, I'm happy for them. I probably wouldn't tell the kids until they were adults. I mean it's no sense in traumatizing them when they are young, just hope they don't have to make a family tree for school.

We are all here just trying to survive. I say, live and let live. If they are happy and in love, who are they hurting? In many countries people marry their first cousins. Love just finds a way a guess..

exciting. I agree that he became into singing "in character" or perhaps in character i do no longer think of he meant it as a gay slur yet in basic terms a ordinary insult. it extremely is how I constantly interpreted it in that song. of course later variations have been edited and that they replace "f****t" with "mom" (that's a shorter version of yet another insult, isn't it? different variations flow away out the 2nd verse altogether. Knopfler defined the writing of the song in a 1985 interview with critic invoice Flanagan: “The lead character in "money for no longer something" is a guy who works interior the hardware branch in a television/custom kitchen/refrigerator/microwave equipment save. he's singing the song. I wrote the song whilst i became into actual interior the save. I borrowed slightly paper and commenced to place in writing the song down interior the save. i needed to apply particularly some the language that the actual guy actual used when I heard him, because of the fact it became into greater actual...." In a prior due 1985 interview in Rolling Stone magazine, Knopfler expressed mixed emotions on the communicate: “I have been given an objection from the editor of a gay newspaper in London - he actual stated it became into below the belt. different than for the shown fact that there are stupid gay human beings as properly as stupid persons, it skill that possibly you won't have the capacity to enable it have lots of meanings - you're able to be direct. in certainty, i'm nevertheless in 2 minds as to if that's a competent theory to place in writing songs that are no longer interior the 1st individual, to handle different characters."

It's nasty to me. Second cousins are too close in my opinion, but law allows it. I guess you should accept it.

My congrats to Billy Bob and Mary Beth.
