The "for the vote is the issue I promote" policy is a big part of it.

Welfare and taxes. Welfare was extreme in those days. Back then, people didn't equate morals with the political party. Since the Supreme Court made abortion legal, it has become a moral issue with republicans. Most democrats see abortion as a gray area and not part of their politics, although you won't find that to be true in Yahoo because most on here are not moderates, but extremists.
By the way, hippies were not democrats, they were antiwar and anti establishment. Most of them weren't even old enough to vote. Had to be 21 then.

The Democrats of the sixties are gone. Zell Miller and Liberman are the last of the breed. The party has been taken over by the far left socialist. The "Blue Dog" conservative Democrat is gone. J.F.K. would be treated as a traitor if he were in the Senate now and proposed the tax cuts he did when he was President. His statement referring to tax cuts still resounds today. " A rising tide floats all boats".

The vote issue is one. The other is they united the people so they could speak out against an"Out of Control" government. They also tried to pass the Equal Rights amendment which flies in the face of "The Good Ole Boys Club" the Republicans prefer their women in the "Stepford Wives" variety. A woman you cannot control AND she gets equal treatment? NOT!
It is disgusting that it is 2007 and we still have not passed the Equal Rights Amendment!
