Hi Princess... the photo was way too blurry to tell, but here is some information. The female Black Widow is shiny black, usually with a reddish hourglass shape on the underside of her spherical abdomen. Her body is about .5 inches long, 1.5 inches when the legs are spread. Adult males are harmless to humans, about half the female's size, with smaller bodies, and longer legs and usually have yellow and red bands and spots over the back as do the immature stages.
Newly hatched spiderlings are predominately white or yellowish-white, gradually acquiring more black and varying amounts of red and white with each molt. Juveniles of both sexes resemble the male and are harmless to humans. Also, as one of the others said, there are also brown widow spiders. Overall, they are more afraid of you than you are of them.

I realize that you've got an irrational worry of spiders. As you say, even a harmless spider scares you. However here is a few useful data: Black widow spiders are almost innocent. They aren't aggressive and infrequently bite anyone. They simply bite plumbers or other employees crawling round in darkish places, and the spider accidentally will get underneath their shirt or some thing. They is not going to be coming into your bed. Black widow bites aren't deadly. Most humans do not even have got to go to the health care provider. Black widow spiders do not like being within the condominium. They do not like the warm temperatures. To make certain you haven't any on your bedroom, you would sweep and clean behind and underneath matters, squash any spiders, and destroy their webs. Black widows do not wander around so much, so it is particularly not likely a further one would move in at the same time you might be there. Where I live, black widows are very original, however we don't see them in most cases. They keep outside and in garages and woodpiles and they cover. As a baby I spent many hours taking part in and climbing round in the storage; I saw many widows over time, but nobody I knew ever received bitten. They simply aren't interested by people.

Hard to tell from the pic. If you still have it...look up Widows on the web. Some are brown with the hour glass, and some are black with the hour glass on the bottom. Florida has black widows but the brown widow is more prominent.
Widow spiders have very strong webs, wiry feeling and always erratic...no pretty design to them.
The Brown Widow will make a web, and lay eggs just about anywhere, eves of your home, the garage and garage door panels. The Black Widow is a little more shy about where it's home is built, but also more aggressive when provoked.
Most Black Widow spider bites are by accident...like sticking you hand behind the old broke down lawn mower, the tool shed, etc.
Both Widow Spiders have cream/coffee colored eggs usually in groups of 3 to 5...hanging in a cluster of very sticky web. They are ball shaped about the size of a pencil eraser and some have spikes on them. Remove with a broom when found.

The picture is too blurry to say for certain, but it looks like a jumping spider, specifically a red-backed jumping spider, Phidippus johnsoni.
Although they are capable of biting, they are not dangerous.
They are quite beneficial, eating a wide variety of insects - including mosquitoes.
Here's a close-up picture of one http://www.dereila.ca/whispers/Johnsoni3.jpg
I wouldn't recommend control measures. They are not a serious pest, do more good than harm, and are certainly less dangerous than any pesticides you could spray.

That is not a black widow. It is a brown recluse. The bite is much worse than that of a black widow, as a recluse bite can eat away at the skin tissue on the human body.

That picture is so blurry I wouldn't even know it was a spider if I hadn't read your description.
If it is a black widow, it will have the tell-tale red hourglass shape on its abdomen.

based on the orange-ish spot on it's butt, i'd saw no. black widows have a shiny, black butt and females have a red hourlgass shape on there's.
to get rid of spiders, most bug killer sprays will work, but make sure you don't get something that doesn't kill spiders like ant or termite spray. other than that, you should do pretty nice. good luck!

Any spray or powder purchased from your local hardware store which is intended to kill spiders, will also kill black widows if that's what it was.
