After midnight the other night, I heard a coyotee baying at the moon. I went to the window to check it out, and no doubt about it, it was a coyotee howling with the luminous moon in the sky behind him. Why exactly to dogs, wolves, and coyotees do this? What is the relationship?

Stellar objects have been a fascination for mankind from the beginning. of these only moon and sun are the most visual objects. They are part of many religious beliefs. while the sun is hot , moon is pleasant at night to look at and also the environment lit up by its light. Probably people need good location for romance and found moon lit nights more romantic. And the way poets describe it and the way people feel about it for generations, moon lit nights will always have romantic things to tell.

Coyotes cannot position themselves "in front of" the Moon. If you were in a different location, the Moon would not appear behind the coyote.

As far as a relationship, light reflected by the Moon allows coyotes to see at night, so perhaps they are comforted by it. It does not, however, exert any kind of paranormal influence on them.
