Im getting a new notebook and have no clue what the 1.6 GHz vs 1.80 GHz vs 2.0 GHz means. I am not going to do gaming or anything like that, just take notes in class, surf the net, upload pictures etc maybe some editing and creating movies. also listen to music etc. which speed is the best to have for stuff like that. is there one thats better to have when you have windows vista home premium and say 120-160 GB hard drive and either 1 or 2GB memory. thanks

The "Ghz" means "gigahertz". 1 gigahertz means the chip voltage source (the "clock") cycles 1 billion times per second. So, the clock of a 1.6 GHz processor cycles 1.6 billion times per second. The more cycles per second, the faster the chip can perform calculations. However, some chips are more efficient; they get more done per clock cycle. Clock speed is not the final word in computing power.

A dual-core processor has two processors. They divide the work among them, so a dual-core 1.6 GHz processor can do twice as much work as a single-core 1.6 GHz processor. However, there is one caveat: A single application thread cannot be split among the two cores.

Any of the chips you described would be adequate for your uses, with the 2.0 GHz chip having the highest performance in demanding applications.

in case you wanna play the sport, you may choose for a quicker processor.Cos the sport demands a minimum of two.4 ghz.Its the counseled point.however the sport may well be run with a slower processor.you are able to deploy it,yet i dont think of that the sport will run easily.
