laptop problem, can't play CDs, DVDs or itunes?

i have a 2 year old windows laptop and itunes won't work all of a sudden. it says there's an audio problem. and also, CDs won't play, like I can't listen to a CD or even play a DVD. what is wrong? what can i do to fix it?

Make sure your audio and DVD/video drivers are working, download the latest if need be.

Check in device manager to find out if the drivers are working. Under Windows XP, right click My Computer and on the Hardware tab, click Device Manager.
