the funny thing is, it was working five minutes ago, then i removed all the cords in the back, took off the side of the tower, then put everything back.

any body have any ideas?

The question that really needs to be asked is why a computer that old is running Windows XP.

Make sure there are no floppy disks or USB pens plugged in. In fact, unplug anything unnecessary, plug in only the power cable, monitor, speakers, keyboard and mouse.

My best guess is that you loosened something plugged into the motherboard, such as one of the expansion cards, ribbon cable to a disk drive, memory module or something similar.

Take the side off again, and gently make sure everything is seated in its socket.

when moving around, something came loose inside the tower. Last time this happened to me, it was the processor that had came loose for some strange reason. Check any and all expansion cards and check the memory and processor as well.

Good Luck.
