Robert Plant, without a doubt! Roth was great with Van Halen and had a few decent while solo. Axel, I still think he dances like a girl. Plant is legend in rock and front man for the Greatest Rock of ALL TIME, the others don't even come close.

Robert Plant heads up just about any list of what a front man should be. He can sing anything and was mysterious.... Axl was great, but unlike Plant, HE is the reason that his great band is no more... they should have put out 5 or 6 mind blowing records by now if he was not such an ******. Diamond Dave is the superstar showman... not a great singer but really sold the music well... he was made for concerts and videos... It is just kind of nice after all of this time and some of the Crap that Dave has had to deal with to learn that Eddie was the one that crawled up inside a bottle and torpedoed Van Halen not once, but three times! Seriously, if I was to start a band I would want a 20 year old Robert Plant above anyone else... good question.

Let's compare the three.
Robert Plant has made over 3 decade's worth of killer music. He still influences people with his songwriting and performing almost 40 years later. Nobody left Zeppelin because of Plant's ego.
DLR fronted a band that did better without him. Sorry folks, but Sammy Hagar is a better musician than Diamond Dave. Also, Dave turned his back on his old bandmates for a solo career that quickly became a parody a la Meatloaf.
Axl, well, he had a couple albums worth of brilliant material, and nobody who could stand to be around him aside from Dizzy Reed. His pretentiousness, ego, and spoiled brat behaviour have lost him more fans and friends and wives than he can ever hope to recover.
