The Gladiatrix in History.

In Ancient Rome, warrior women fought to the death for the pleasure of the Emperor and the mob.

Many were slaves, condemed to the arena by right of conquest; some were the autocrati, those who fought for fame and fortune.

They were the heroines of their day, at once revered and reviled by the multitudes that packed the Colleseum to sate their lust for blood.

This is their story...

Well, I can say that there were such things.

I'd recommend the book "Gladiatrix," which is an attempt to piece together what the life of a female gladiator would have been like.
It's based on the grave you mention which, I believe, was unearthed in London while excavating for a new building.

Can't tell you a website but it is a historical fact that there women gladiators in the Roman arenas. They were trained just as the men were. Sometimes they only fought other women but othertimes they fought men and/or animals.

the Hollywood depiction of female gladiators are supermodels with weapons. Really hot chicks that most guys wouldn't mind staring at for hours on end.

but in reality, female gladiators were rare and uncommon, and they probably were the ugliest lot, as all the pretty females were used as sex slaves rather then gladiators. And the decent looking ones were used as household slaves. so all the ugly ones that no one wanted, were probably fed to the animals or used for entertainment of that nature.

They were billed as Amazons and fought with one breast bare.
