Tonight I'm doing a karaoke contest, and I'm really nervous, what helps to feel less nervous? I'm only 17, and I'm doing it in front of my peers.

for most i'd say a little piece of a xanax, just kidding.breathe deeply hold your breath for 10 seconds and let it out slowly.breath in thru your nose and out thru pursed lips, out thru your mouth.
also, you can think" what's the worse thing that can happen"?now you're not gonna die, that would be the worse.or you may be scared you're gonna embarrass yourself?nah, just go into it with a positive attitude, just go do it to have fun.it'll be fine.

well make sure you know the song you are singing first and get plenty of practice before you are up there. also, wear sunglasses even if it's indoors, this way if you're nervous you don't have to look at anyone and no one will know you are not making eye contact to the crowd. just relax and do your best. that's all that can be expected. karaoke is all about being able to not be afraid of what others think and just putting yourself out there. just be confident and have fun!

Hey, I am actually a psychology major and this is my best advice to you to cut back on the anxiety and make you feel less nervous. Rehearse the exact event over in your head BEFORE you do it, meaning go over it in your head exactly as you think it will go a few times. This way, when you actually go up and do the karaoke, it will feel more natural. Trust me I have a huge issue with public speaking and when I do this it really helps me!

Everybody gets nervous. Rather than trying to combat it, realize that it happens and go from there. Johnny Carson was asked about whether he felt nervous when he went on stage. He said he always felt nervous. Confidence might help to cure all the other things that make one feel nervous.

The only way to overcome stage fright is to just put yourself out there and prove you can do it...it gets a little easier each time, but never fully goes away...that nervous feeling keeps you on your toes!

When you're singing, don't look at the audience. Look over their heads, and try not to think about all the people. Imagine it's just you, singing like you do in the shower, or in front of the mirror. :-)

Best wishes, and good luck!

The first time is the hardest but, remember, everyone has a first time (keep this in mind).
Once you break that ice, it's all good and all fun! Practice with friends, it will be a lot more fun!

Get out of yourself. Pretend that you are an observer watching the real you sing. Is it so important?
