though im going there for about my 37th time, i never focused on how many miles it is from san diego.
how many miles is it away from sd?
how long will it take to drive without any traffic?

The nicest way to go is by the Sheep Hole Mountains. Take the 15 to the 215 and Riverside, then the 60 to 62 to 21 Palms, go to Amboy and Kelso and Cima, you will connect back up with the 15. Avoids the traffic and is a really good trip. Saves the LA traffic (20 mph in rush hour) and is more a direct route.

san diego is about 300 miles from las vegas it will take roughly 4 hours to commute

I'd say if you are driving 6 hours and make sure you have plenty of gas and your car is in good shape it's hot in the desert, no one wants to have car troubles on the way.
