Breast milk, preferably, but formula would do if it's not possible. Being vegetarian doesn't mean a mother can't give her baby her own milk. It's a natural and good thing to do. Vegetarianism is about refraining from contributing to the suffering of animals needlessly. A mother does not suffer when she gives her child milk. I've seen this kind of question before. It's like, that milk comes from a living being that theres some magical property that makes it against the rules, or hypocritical, for the baby to partake in it. Get real.

Breast milk or formula, that is all newborn babies can have anyway. I was a vegetarian, strict, no chicken or fish either, and I breast fed my child. My friends said she would not get enough protien but they had children same time as me and they also breast fed. There were 4 of us. I was the only one able to breastfeed without supplimenting, they all had to suppliment with formula because their babies were not getting enough nutrients but mine was. One had to stop at 2 months, one at 6 weeks the other had to suppliment starting at 4 months. I was able to nurse without supplimenting for 5 months than start cereal and babyfood and I nursed for 1 year. Never did need formula though I used it for when I was out of the house and needed a babysitter. I did feed my child meat baby food but I had decided on my own to become a vegetarian and decided to let my child do the same. It is possible to have a pre-table food baby go without meat, it is NOT a necessaty, beans, peanut butter have all the protien you need

Well a newborn would get a bottle with formula or breastmilk. After they start baby food then only buy the baby food without meat and make sure they eat lots of other foods with protein like veggies, beans, peanut butter (very thin) and when your doc says it is safe.

Just like adults....babies dont NEED meat so anyone who tells you "give her meat she needs the protein..blah blah blah" is just some meat eater strung up on their own eating habits.

Vegetebles are SUPER important in a baby's diet, alot of children start their unhealthy eating habits right from the baby years.
She needs milk (breast feeding is best)
Veggies and Fruits....grain and stuff like pasta..... you know just follow whats on the food pyramid!
=D

P.S: feed your children what you feel and know is healthy and best for them wether that be vegeterian diet or the opposite. As they grow olde,r if they decide they want to try some meat then you shouldn't force them not to but politely inform them why vegeterian dieting is better and whats so bad about eating meat.

breast milk; but if that's not an option for you for some reason, ask your pediatrician about a soy-based formula. Assuming you want to bring up your baby vegetarian, you will want to have your pediatrician advise you on the formula, vitamins (they make vegetable based vitamins too) and what you will have to feed your baby as he/she grows because you will need good, high protein substitutes for meat and eggs.

Breast milk!!
Soy milk/formula shouldn't be used (unless there's a milk allergy, and my one son had to use it) because it has recently been shown to increase the risk for breast cancer.
Pediatricians now recommend waiting until age 2 or 3 for peanut butter because of life-threatening peanut allergies, which seem to be on the rise.

Well a newborn generally has breast milk or formula so I don't understand your question. They aren't eating solids until 4-6months of age, and then you decide what to feed them as far as meats and veggies.

Formula or breast milk. Even as they start table foods though they will still need more protein because they are still growing.

Did you hear about the vegan couple who' baby starved to death. they fed it apple juice and soy milk. They are in jail.

Try breastmilk if you want to go strictly vegetarian.
