hi Jessica, to spin your own yarn you need a spindle, easily made from old cd-roms, or find a cheap wooden spindle to buy. You will also need wool fleece or tops to make your yarn. The quick answer is to go to the spinning section on ebay and pick up a beginners kit, spindle, spinning fibers and all. Otherwise check out the following sites:

They have info, links and resources for you to get established.
Have fun!

Check e-bay - type Spinning wheel plans and see what pop up or you can buy one the LOUET spinning wheel is the simplest However some of those spinning wheels are pricey. So be prepared to pay a lot for one.

There are plenty of websites if you search on spinning. You can also try sca.org. They probably have info on spinning. If not, they probably have links. It isn't that hard; you need a spindle and yarn. If you like, you can even buy standard 4ply yarn and separate and respin it. I've never tried this (I like modern yarns just fine, myself), but I know people who have and have researched it a bit.

Hi!

Here are some basics, without any expensive wheels etc.
And cheap metallic dog brushes sold at WalMart will do great as carders!

You can spin all kind of natural fibers
( as you will see that website) it doesn't have to be
wool or mohair :)

Hope this helps little....

wool, i think you have to card it first then spin it.
you don't need a big spinning wheel, there is a smaller hand thing you can use to spin the wool into yarn. you can probalby buy it all online. weavers do this.
