all mini's from beginning to the current model are front engine front drive cars.

Funny little cars with the transmission running in the crankcase oil. Engine was sideways really strange in 1961 and the radatior exhausting out the drivers fender. Transmission drove the front wheels with inner rubber u joints and CV joints at the wheels. By the 1980's front wheel drive really took off and 85% of all cars are FWD

Hello. I believe they were front wheel drive (but that was a long time ago) I never owned one, but another guy I knew then did. It was a Mini Cooper S. It was fast, small and difficult to find parts for at the time. Sorry I'm not more positive.
