Check the wires. There are two large posts, aligned vertically, that require a 9/16 wrench. The top post has the battery lead & power wire to the fuse box.
There are two [sometimes only one] small terminals on either side. The inside [closest to the block] is the power wire from the key.
The likely cause of the starter sticking is the solenoid. When the solenoid is activated the plunger strikes a contact plate inside. Over a period of time that plate becomes pitted causing it to stick.

could be the ground or it could be the ignition in the car not telling the starter to stop engaging. the starter may be on its way out. if the wires are hooked up wrong then you would have already most likely fried the starter, battery, and wires.

you likley have the wrong size starter. It has to short a throw and engages but will not disengage. I had this problem before. The difference was between the starter for a manual vs. automatic trans.

Sounds like a stuck starter solenoid. need to fix ASAP before you damage the starters teeth or the ring gear.

either the power on the small start control wire is staying on after you release the key switch sticking or the starter drive gear is too close to the fly wheel and binding there are starter shims available for this. loosen the starter and install one shim retighten and try it

Yup. You wired it wrong.

The little wires are hooked up to the wrong posts.

Only ONE wire goes to the "Excite" terminal.
The other wire goes to the other post.

ADDED:
GM does not use seperate starter solenoids!!!!

Bad solenoid? I'd change the starter and solenoid.
