Holland is full of very interesting architecture spanning a century or seven/eight, that is if you don't count the Romans.... I agree that it would have helped if you had mentioned what period you're interested in... Maybe this will help? ISBN 90-5662-488-1 / 978-90-5662-488-0, €39,50 is the 2005/2006 yearbook of Dutch architecture (I assume modern architecture, http://www.naipublishers.nl/architectuur/jaarboek_0506_nl.html )... For older Dutch Architecture I'm sure there's plenty of books available too...

You'll probably find some of the most interesting "old" architecure in smaller towns/cities, like for instance Delft (close to The Hague)... Of the three major cities, Amsterdam is a tourist trap but has a lot of very old and very new buildings, Rotterdam pretty much has only new since it was very badly damaged in the war and The Hague has very nice architecture from all important periods in Dutch architecture... (check out http://www.denhaag.com )

Madurodam, http://www.madurodam.nl , which is in The Hague/Den Haag is like a Dutch Architecture Theme park and it should definitely be high on your list...

I think that if you had asked "what is an unremarkable place" it would be easier.

Not all architectural things are grouped together.
There are special items everywhere.

Of course, you`ll find a lot in the big cities, but everywhere is a lot to find.

What holds your interest? Older, Ancient or Modern architecture?
In Rotterdam - you`ll find various interesting examples - Cubed houses for example - in Valkenburg you`ll find one of the oldest stations in the country - in Amsterdam you`ll find the first multifloor trainstation of Holland - etc. etc.

Gimme a note - i may be able to give some detailed tips.

Rotterdam. As it was bombed in the second WW, you see a great mix of old buildings (Het Witte Huis, townhall, hotel New York) and modern architecture.... (cube houses, pencil building), some great bridges crossing De Maas river. I was born and raised there so may be a bit biased. Make sure you stop in the "old harbour" for some good Dutch beer on a terras that serves for some good people watching. You will enjoy it

It depends on what you're interested in.
Like to see old medieval houses, you can see them in the open air museum (Open Lucht Museum)at Arnhem. Also remarkable is the Kroller Müller Museum at the north of Arnhem. There are several old Hanze-cities near the rivers, which have old architecture, like Kampen, Deventer, Zutphen and Doesburg.
So that's all in the more eastern part of Holland.

i was there for Memorial Day, and in Margrattan, there is the US Military Cemetary, where my great grandfather is buried. thats an amazing place to go to. also the town of Maastricht is really neat, the buildings are very neat there, nothing like america. and there is a prison in that area as well thats a popular attraction. also Amsterdam is always the most popular tourist attraction. the people there are very nice and loyal to Americans because we liberated them. when we were waiting for a bus, a Dutch family pulled over and insisted on taking us to our hotel, thatd never happen in America! Have Fun!

Hello me :) Rotterdam ! It's the experimental garden of architects ! Start your stroll at Oude Haven, under the cubic houses, to the shopping street, to the Theatre Square, and don't forget Weena Street. You can do all that in half an hour.

You really should visit Madurodam located in Scheveningen (west of Netherlands).
It is "Nederland in het klein" (The Netherlands in small).
