Simpson was arrested at RAF Northolt on July 7, 2007, shortly after having performed with Snow Patrol at Live Earth at Wembley Stadium, for missing a court date in Glasgow after having been charged for possession of a Class A drug (cocaine possession). He was held at Uxbridge Police Station, and transferred to Strathclyde before being released in time to perform with the band at T in the Park in Balado. Simpson missed Snow Patrol's performance at the Oxegen Festival in Ireland as a result.
