Initially, I would bring them in to allow them to explain their reasoning behind the actions, then I would remind him the concept behind private property.

I would then advise them that this is not proper teaching behavior and I did not want to hear a repeat of such actions

Can you please learn to spell and use the computer's spell checker? Please.

AFTER you have spoken to that director, AND to his next up the ladder - the principal, you can write a letter to the board if you are not satisfied with what you have been told.

Perhaps you could take your instrument home at night?

Teacher may not have information about the owner of the instrument?

Firing a band teacher is necessary if the board finds out all the facts (and not just the ones YOU present), and decides that it is the correct action. You do not have ALL the facts, dear.

I doubt that he can be fired for the actions you have described unless he has been warned that the actions are a matter for dismissal. Generally the procedure for an dismissal are laid out in the Union Contract with the School Board.

Generally they include:
1. A Verbal Warning
2. A Written Warning
3. Counseling and Probation
4. Possible Legal Action
5. Reassignment
6. Dismissal

How many years do you plan to invest in the action to get the Band Director dismissed.

Sorry, but the system was built to protect idiots from themselves.

Umm, yeah. That's unsanitary, and just plain disrespectful!

As a band member, I would be disgusted if someone use my trumpet, and would take it home for a serious scrubbing and cleansing. I would boycott band and write a letter to the school board, principal, and/or superintendent. I would write a petition and get as many people as possible to sign it. If neccessary, I would interview a health official and write a five paragraph essay based on what I learned from them.

Ew, Eww, and EWWW!

I don't know about fire... but definitey give that teacher a good talking to. Just to scare him/her. Are you a student at this school? I would say, don't be afraid to talk to your pricipal about this issue. You should talk to the band teacher too, but be mature about it so you don't make yourself look like a whiney teenager.

not fire but definitley put a leash on him and let him know that DOOD your a band director?!?!?! meaning not good enough to be in the band professionally so you have to take it out on the kids and pick favorites in order to make yourself look better... put em in his place. and you should never say TOO BAD to a student. they should say it to the teacher when he realizes his authority is effecting his students in the wrong way and needs to be put in check.

I would only fire him if he starts incorporating rap music into the band's repertoire. It would only make the band look bad.

I hope the mothpiece is changed. Is it your own personal instrument or the school's and you use it?

No, I would not fire him for this. But I would tell students to protect their possessions by removing them from the area.

I don't know if I'd fire them, but I'd definitely let him know that this behavior isn't acceptable. That's nutty behavior.
