general knowledge that the whole family can play? (9 and up) I don't want one that just does movies, or music, cartoons, etc. I've seen so many versions on the net, that I have no idea which is a good one. Thanks

There is an older version that may work for the family and it is geared for ages 7 and up. The questions sometimes can be harder and some questions are multiple choice, some are simple yes, no questions. The edition is called Young Players edition.

To be completely honest with you, Trivial Pursuit doesn't make for a good family game. There are several children's versions out, but all the pop culture versions would go way over their heads. I've tried playing Trivial Pursuit with my family and my children could only answer one or two questions during the entire game. They also lost interest very quickly. If you really want Trivial Pursuit try this for movies and music http://www.trivialpursuit.com/trivialpursuit/boardgames_pop_culture2.html or one of these for the children http://www.trivialpursuit.com/trivialpursuit/boardgames_kids6.html or http://www.trivialpursuit.com/trivialpursuit/boardgames_kids_nick.html.

Any of the Genus editions or the 20th Anniversary edition are more general; however, some of the questions might be too difficult for younger kids. What you might want to do is mix one of these editions with a children's version: the adults get asked the regular questions and the kids get asked the younger questions, so there's some leveling of the playing field.
