Computer crashed will not reboot only restore says i will lose all files (including family photos not yet backed up!!!) i hooked harddrive to another computer and it will not let me do anything with it the only message i get is "drive is corrupt and unreadable" thanks so much!

Put the drive back in the other PC after you set the jumper to slave. Then enter the BIOS and set your IDE options to Auto.
Then Boot to windows and see if you can retrieve your information and burn backup disks.

Yes. Your system file has probably become corrupted. The easiest to fix this is to go out and buy a new hard drive. Take the old drive out and convert to a portable drive (The conversion kit is about $20). Install the new drive and boot up the computer. The manufacturer hopefully gave you a start up disc. If not you need an OS (operating system), preferably what you had before. Once you get the computer running you should have no trouble locating all your old files. You can copy them to your new drive and save the old hard drive as a back-up! Does this help?

you have just learned a valuable lesson. always make a backup of the files you need to save,,, never leave anything of importance on a computer. without backup copies..

now your mistake was installing the hard drive into another computer,, that computer will have over written the MBS (master boot sector) of the drive)
yes you can still get the files you need off the drive though you need to know what to do and how to do it.
