the average speed of one airplain is 200 mph faster than that of an automobile.If the autombile starts at 3am and the airplane starts form the same place at 11am,they will have traveled the same number of miles by 1pm .

if r represents the rate of the automobile,how many miles does
the plane travel?

basic equation says distance is the same, but different times and rates, so

car dist = plane dist
rate * time = rate * time
r(10) = (r + 200)(2)

so your answer is b.

The answer is both B and C.

If r represents the speed of the car and p represents the speed of the plane than the problem statement gives the following:

p = r + 200 (the speed of the plan is 200 faster than the car)

Distance is equal to speed times time, and the problem statement gives the following:

d = p * 2 = r * 10 (in 10 hours the car travels the same distance the plan does in 2 hours).

Substituting r + 200 for p gives:

d = (r + 200) * 2 = r * 10 (Answers B and C)

We can now solve for r:

2r + 400 = 10r
400 = 8r
50 = r

p = r + 200
p = 250

Assuming miles and hours we can say that a car traveling at 50 mph will travel 500 miles in 10 hours and a plan traveling at 250 mph will travel the same distance in 2 hours.
