How can I use a logitech gamepad with MAME?

What OS?????

Have you clicked FILE then Properties. then went to controllers and see if mame sees your controller?

Have you went to your computer control panel and made sure it has your controller installed?

Do you know how to MAP?

Have you mapped the controller during the game by pressing tab and selecting inputs for this game?
