He wrote it in contrast to "A People's History of the United States," which takes the side that our history books have lied to us, and that our country is not as great as we have been told. It cites plenty of times where our supposed "heroes" and forefathers were greedy, racist, stupid, etc. It basically says that our history has been told to us so that we have a positive view of our government.

"A Patriot's..." tells the history that all of our history books have in it while making extra effort to counteract "A People's..." Basically, the view is that our government is and always has been what it has claimed to be and that people who don't agree are either misinformed or exaggerating.

the basic premise is that the history being taught in our educational system for the last several decades essentially supports the liberal view that America is basically flawed.

Many 'history' teacher do not (or not allowed to) teach anything much before WWII and like our courts and judges these text books tend to give the most liberal interpretation of our Constitution and our laws.

this is simplifying it but basically, Americans no longer feel pride in our nation or it's accomplishments and are made to feel guilty and apologetic for our successes and the book tries to restore that pride.
