University, what impact would that have on my chances of being granted admission?

Why not ask National University for a list of their former students who were admitted to UCSD Medical School? They should be proud to give you such a list. If not, maybe that tells you something.

Sorry to be negative, but National University doesn't have much of a reputation. You might still be able to do it, but you would still need to prove that you were capable of handling coursework at a quality university. If you were to work on research with someone at a recognized university and get their recommendation that you were clearly capable of work at that level, then maybe, but the number of students accepted into quality medical schools from lesser schools like that is very small.
