Click Start, click Run, then type dxdiag, OK. Choose Sound tab. If you do not see your device and your driver there, you will have to install your sound driver. If they are there, test the sound. If no sound, you could check volume or if it is muted in Control Panel or w/ the speaker icon at the tray in lower right corner.

From the start menu go to "control panel", then "sounds and audio devices". Tick the "Place volume in the taskbar" box. This will let you adjust sound as and when you want.

Provided you speakers are fine and all connected- you need to get to your volume control- one speaker seems good enough when certain music is playing-from Limeware Realplayer or one's own DVD!
