It's not just genetics, but you shouldn't do anything to try to change the size of the baby. If you're worried about not being able to deliver naturally, talk about it with your doctor-- you might be able to induce labor a little early, but you definitely should not try to change your diet in order to influence the size of your baby.
Diabetics tend to have large babies.
Babies conceived while on depo provera tend to be small.

Many factors come in to play when determining a baby's birth weight. Eating a healthy well-balanced diet while pregnant will keep mom-to-be healthy which will in turn contribute to the health of the baby. Genetics also help to determine a baby's birth weight. Moms who smoke tend to have lower birth weight babies as do young moms. Big babies can be born to pregnant women who develop Gestational Diabetes. While milk is a healthy choice for pregnant women, drinking a lot of it does not correlate directly to the size of the baby. Some women who never drink milk while pregnant can still have large babies and some women who drink a lot of milk can have small babies. The size of a baby at birth does not necessarily mean much for the life long health of a baby. My own father was born prematurely nearly 71 years ago and only weighed 3 pounds at birth. He was born at home and his great-aunt kept him alive with hot bricks and a tiny syringe to feed him with. He is a healthy 70 years old, 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs 200 pounds. My college roommate's daughter was 10 1/2 pounds at birth and is now 22 years old, about 5 feet 5 inches and maybe weighs 100 pounds with her clothes on. A good goal while pregnant is to eat healthy, get regular prenatal check ups, keep active, and avoid alcohol, caffeine, and cigarette smoke. All of these things will help grow a healthy baby.

My name is Courtney and when I was pregnant with my first child I was 18 years old, pretty short(5'5"), and average in size. I ate very healthy and did everything as I should in pregnancy. When I delivered my son Christian, who was born exactly 1 day after my due date, he was 9 lbs. 11 1/2 oz. They said it was because my b/f was 6'2''. But honestly I think a baby weighs what it should because your body wouldn't allow anything it can't handle. He was born via c-section and was absolutely perfect. Beautiful round head and just wouldn't have wanted him any other way! Plus, you don't want too little of a baby. My sister's babies have both been 5lbs. and I would never want a baby even close to that small. They are so much cuter when they have meat on them and have some support when you handle them!

Its all pre-determined. The doctors told me taller women usually have bigger babies, I'm 5'10" and my son was 9lbs....which isn't big considering the fact that my husband was 11 lbs 3 oz. (and is mom is only 4'11")! She said when she was pregnant with him she ate very healthy cause her other 2 were so big she didn't want another big one and he was even bigger!
I drank almost a gallon of milk everyday during my pregnancy, if milk drinking made bigger babies I should have had a 20 pounder! I have heard you can average your birthweight and the baby's fathers and thats about how big your baby will be...worked for us!

a babies size isnt detemined on genetics as some people said up there.the # 1 thing to cause you to have a big baby is gestational diabetes.your doc will have you tested when you are certain # of weeks pregnant.a big or small baby shouldnt matter to you,as long as baby is healthy. i had a big baby and didnt have the gestational diabetes.my baby was 12 pounds 23 inches long.yeah thats big!i ate healthy and i didnt overindulge as some people tend to do since "youre eating for two". are you trying to have either a big or small baby? id dont suggest you try anything to change your babys growth for it can be dangerous and may even harm baby instead. just eat healthy and stay healthy and dont worry about how big or small baby will be.if you do those two things, you are most likely to have a healthy bundle of joy!

There's nothing you can do to change the size of a baby. That's determined by the nutrients the mother gets.
The only way to make a baby small is to be malnourished, but that can harm the baby. The safest thing to do is not try anything but keep to yourself healthy.
Good luck!

The only thing to worry about is diabetes in pregnancy that can cause a baby to be extra big. Eating healthy and not smoking, or drinking alcohol and doing drugs should be all you need to do plus prenatal care.

The doctors say that aloohol and smoking can make babies smaller. Too much alcohol can cause fetal alcohol syndrome which is something you don't want your baby to have.
So if you are, now is the time to stop.

You won't get a 'bigger' baby but milk puts a layer of fat on under the baby so s/he'll have that gorgeous smooth baby skin and won't be a super skinny baby. I was a very skinny baby but my baby brother weighed 10lb 8. My mother had milos everyday during her pregnancy with him. They might weigh a little more because of it but it's just a layer of fat dairy puts on them. It's cute too.
