Familiar with this vehicle and have owned a 2000 model (well my ex-fiance did). Easiest way to check is to disconnect the connector from the coolant temp sensor with the engine running at normal operating temp. If the fans kick on then the sensor is faulty and will need to be replaced. If it still doesnt then you have another problem. It doesnt matter that the temp gauge still works, the sensor could still be bad. Fans may be bad but this is rarely the case and I have only dealt with 3 replacements in over 10 years as an auto tech regularly dealing with Sunfires and the near identical Chevy Cavalier. You may test the fan as described in the other responses or connect jumper wires from the battery directly to the fan connector to check for proper operation. Good luck.

try to replace the fan relay if it breaks than this will cause the fan not to work. the relay will be in a fuse box in the engine bay on the left or the right side. Under the cover you will see a diagram that shows what everything is for. look for something that ses main fan and try to replace it. The relay will look like a small black box. If it still does not work than bring the car to a GOOD mechanic and have them look at it.

yes your vehicle will overheat the cheapest, easiest diagnostic proceedure would be to turn on the a/c (in order to turn the fan on) then check power at the fan motor if there is power then simply replace the fan motor if no power at the fan motor, i would replace the relay (it is pretty inexpensive) if that does not fix it you need a coolant temperature sensor. although im pretty sure this vehicle only has one coolant temperature sensor so if your gauge works propely, your sensor should be fine. good luck but be sure and order a fan motor b/c they separate and they will send you a fan w/o motor

Check the bank of fuses under the hood on the far left side of the engine bay, see if the one labled cooling fan is blown, if not you may also have a faulty thermostat. Good luck!

It would appear that you have a bad fan motor, replace this and your proble should go away. If you don't look for a new engine.
