What you have heard is correct. Pregnant women should not consume cold deli meats. That doesn't mean that you can't have a turkey and peanut butter sandwich... You just need to heat the turkey up. I have come to enjoy hot ham sandwiches with melted cheese and toasted bread. I order my Subway toasted as well.

I think that the meat you can buy already cut is also considered deli meat, but I'm really not sure. When I was pregnant I knew about the unpasteurized cheese thing, but I hadn't heard about the deli meats, I ate at Subway all the time, I'm not sure if those meats were considered unsafe or not, but thankfully my baby girl had no problems as a result of my love of Subway. Here's a link that discusses a little bit about why you should avoid deli meats:

I had sandwiches with both of my pregnancies, just didn't leave the meat in my fridge for more than the third day. Delis usually go through meat quickly as well so you are pretty safe there. If you are worried, heat it in the microwave for 20 seconds before putting it on the sandwich. And cheese you are safe with, this is bad, but I even had a few crackers with goat cheese and soft cheeses throughout the end of my pregnancy and no problems.

I went to a pre preggers senimar and they did say Not to eat soft cheeses, deli meat (processed) some fish (because of mercury)
Basically the best stuff to eat is food from the ground. Try to avoid processed food such as chicken nuggets, Mcdonalds all take away foods. With seafood, you should only eat it in moderation but then again you have to make sure the mercury isnt high in it...
Oh another thing do Not eat Sprouts (aparently theres something in them thats not good in the first trimester)

There is a small possiblity that deli and luncheon meat could contain Listeria which is a form of food poisoning. Therefore, if you eat deli and luncheon meat you should warm it up to kill off any possible chances of Listeria existing. Listeria can be very harmful, and sometimes deadly to very young children and unborn babies.

I think thats retarded.
I ate deli meat, canned meat, raw cheeses, and sea food in moderation.
Anything and everything can kill you and the baby. Lunch meat certainly isnt high on the list. Any food contains bacteria, jsut eat it the same day you buy it.

I've never heard of that and I have 3 kids.
I have heard that lettuce can carry a lot of bacteria.
Keep eating the sandwiches. I wouldn't worry about it. Congratulations on the pregnancy!

Well, if you can't, that's news to me!
I've been eating all that meat since day one, haha.
And considering I passed my due date and I'm still pregnant, I'm assuming it won't do anything.
She's still alive.
And no, she's not retarded or anything.
Ha..
Eat that meat!
As a matter of a fact, that sounds good.
I think I'm gonna go get some now.
