how do u feel about emo?

ok...my daughter has friends @ school who say they r "emo" and she says it stands for emotional. she said that one of her friends said that they were all emo, they just dont cut themselfs. if u cut ur self u have a special problem, if u cut urself just to fit into a group thats just wrong. she said she thought it was really stupid and i think so too. have u ever met soomeone thats "emo"? r u "emo"? how do u feel about this?

Yes, it does stand for emotional. And don't worry... Your daughter may be telling the truth about her friends not cutting themselves, as not all emos do this (cut themselves). Emo is simply a subculture, and there is both good and bad in all cultures.

A little about emo:

The term "emo" hasn't been used in reference to a subculture for very long. It began as a term (in the 1980's) used only to discribe a music genre. The music enjoyed by emos is generally emotionally charged (hence the name "emo"). They particularly like hardcore punk. Their fashion borrows from both punk and gothic fashions and includes tight fitting clothing, long bangs, "worn out" sneakers, etc... They are stereotypically open and honest about emotions, dejected, and sensitive.

It's important to keep in mind that the above is a very short and general discription. As in all other cultures/subcultures, people don't all embrace the same things.

no im not emo but I have met emo people emo to me is like a metrosexual goth kid there all down on life and act like they don't care about what other people think of them or feel like society has abandoned them on the other hand their applying eye shadow getting the nails done wearing there hair to cover one eye to look mysterious and wear really tight pants for no real apparent reason. They are very sexually confused the girls are not as bad 2 me they seem really similar to a punker but didn't get in the band so they cry...alot I think its just another click with some really unhealthy habits

btw your daughter is smart not 2 cut herself just to fit in you should be proud bcuz most teenagers would do almost anything just to fit in . Emo kids need emotional help or need to learn how 2 cope and suck it up otherwise life is going to whoop there a_sses if they dont learn how to defend themselves.

I think it's alittle annoying that emo's act the way they act, I understand that the reason they act like this is because they feel unwanted and dont have anyone in the world, but they are just blaming other people because they can't accept that life's a b***h, and they're making it look like the music they listen to are the cause for it in the eyes of adults.

I think kids today are so labeled in our society that they have made it a trendy thing. It has now become "cool" to be "emo" and to pretend to have serious issues really is a sad statement.about our society.

I think we give our kids too many crutches and excuses today instead of teaching them how to cope with the issues we would rather let them be sheltered and spoiled.

First of all, I'm not emo. There are many emo people. I don't like most of them, because they are always depressed to hang around with, and cry about how hard their life is. However, there are some that I like, in fact, and are actually good people.

emo peoplez r jus crazzy wierd and scary. no1 likes them coz there wierd and ther dont socialize that much. im 16 and i read some1 said kids think its cool 2 b emo. mayb thats wher he's livin. its NOT cool 2 b emo, matter fact its scary. trust me if yo kid b hangin with them no life people i suggest u have a serius talk wit her coz she gone be vurrrrrrrrrrrrry wierd..
