It will not screw up your machine, however in my opinion it is a completely useless service from MS. Just trash some old files you dont ever use, or get a new hard drive in my opinion.

Get a new hard drive, or if you want to keep that one, think about getting a second hard drive or even a USB external hard drive.

Compressing your hard drive wont get you much more space, and if your full of space at the moment, it wont take you long to refill it after its compressed.
Also if you think about compressing, it compress' everything on your pc, and not all software/programs/games may function correctly after a compression to the hard drive has been completed.
So i wouldnt suggest it.. But its your pc.

Fiel compression from Microsoft is overrated.

Spend a few bucks and add a hard drive, or spend a few more and buy a migger one.

You can do it but I don't suggest it becuase of the chance of damage to games and other programs that are installed on your computer.
