It's probably just it's genetics. Goldfish can undergo many color changes in their lifetime. A pure black is the rarest color to "keep" and these fish will often turn orange, gold, or white, but orange and gold can turn white over time as well. Here's a link to some photos of an oranda undergoing a color change from solid black to black with a little gold and white on the stomach: http://www.kokosgoldfish.com/GoldfishChangingColor.html and a telescope changing from black to orange: http://www.thegab.org/Articles/ColorChange.html
Color change is especially common in young goldfish (under a year old) and old fish as they're aging (remember, a goldfish can live more than 10 years). Diet and lighting do play a part in their color, but other times, it's just a natural event.
The only time this would be something for you to worry about is if the fish looked duller and gray/white - this can be caused by overproduction of their slime coat, and usually indicates there's a parasite that's attacking the fish. If it's gray/white and fuzzy, this could either be a fungus or Columnaris (bacterial disease).

Im not positive because I dont have goldfish or any experience with them but it could be of old age? Test the water because I have Black Skirts and if the water is not good for them they can change color. Also if they arent comfortable in thier surroundings. I wish you luck :]

this is normal. goldfish do change color. depends on its pigment, goldfish will change to red, yello, silver, white. so it's normal and no need to worry. as long you test the water frequently and make routine water change, there is nothing to worry about.
FYI - i have a common goldfish, her color changed from gold to white a year ago. she is now almost 2 years old and still lives happily. so i didn't just make this up.
