Oh man there are so many great ones, and regular stores don't sell any of them, except apples to apples
A great sight is www.funagaingames.com you can click at the top on Party and you can brows the party games. Also looking up those games on amazon.com is great way to hear what others rate them and like or don't like about the games,. You can also find more competitive prices at Amazon.
I recommend Carcassonne which I own and is a classic that most everyone enjoys, also Settlers of Catan, and The Werewolves of Millers Hollow : ).
Anyway most of the great games made are made in Germany (ex:Apples to apples), American games aren't nearly so fun! Check them out! : )

Best party game I have played is by far apples to apples. Not only have I played it at parties, but the company I work for had it was a team event and that was great as well. It was a ton of fun especially if you got a large group of people. It was also voted party game of the year in 1999.
Two thumbs up!
Chess at a party? Wow thats a hardcore party ;)

Greetings! Backgammon is a very fast paced game. Clue is another game that is one of my favorites (I don't know if it is still produced, but there was an expanded edition that added three more players, two more weapons and four more rooms, if my memory serves me correct). Yahtzee is also fast paced as is Battleship played Salvo style (each player's turn gets as many calls as there are surviving ships -Five calls to start). Mille Bornes is another fast paced game. Hope that helps. Have lots of fun!!

If you have 6 dice, you can play Farkle. At the bottom of this answer is a site that tells about it. They say they will give you the rules for $5.00 which is highway robbery since they learned it for free from their Minister, who learned it from someone else, etc. We also learned it at a church social.
RULES for Farkle. It's played like a combination of poker and yatsee.
Select a person to keep score. All you need is a pen and pad of paper. Add each persons score from the round they just did to their existing score that is on the paper. Each person must have 750 points to start scoring.
Object of the game: Reach 10,00 points first or the highest points if more than one person goes higher than 10,000.
Farkle is achieved when you fail to score. You Farkle.
You must have at least 750 points on your first score in order to 'get on the board' which means write your points down so you can stop your turn and pass the dice. Once you reach 750 points, you may stop and keep that score on the score sheet or you may continue to get more points before you pass the dice. If you 'farkle' though you lose all those points and have to start again next turn to get 'on the board.' On all other turns, you may stop and keep your score anytime with any amount of points.
You will be allowed to roll the dice as many times as you choose on each turn, adding up your points as you go, as long as you score points on each roll. You may stop any time and those points go onto your score sheet and cannot be taken away. If you do not score during your roll, you lose all points you were adding up during the turn, still keeping what is on the score sheet.
Points are as follows:
Ones = 100 points
Fives = 50 points
3 of a kind on the same roll of the dice = 100 x the number that was rolled. For example, 3 sixes rolled = 600 points, etc. Exceptions to that rule: *3 ones on the same roll of the dice = 1000 points. *On the first roll only, you can have two of these sets of 3 dice. *Anyone who rolls two of those sets of 3 dice all with the same number on all 6 dice automatically wins the game. For example, 444 & 444 This can only happen on the first roll of each turn.
3 sets of pairs of dice, like (2 & 2, 3 & 3, 5 & 5) on the same roll = 1500 points. This can only happen on the first roll of each turn.
A large straight, only with 6 dice so it will be a 1,2,3,4,5,6 on the same roll = 1500 points. This can only happen on the first roll of each turn.
Any roll that doesn't have at least 1 one or 1 five in it or a combination of any of the above points, is a 'farkle'.
As soon as the first person goes over 10,000 each person around the table gets one chance to catch that person in points and go over their stopping points.
Something for input: Don't get cocky if you are ahead and the nearest person is over 5000 points behind you. I have seen people win who had only 3000 points when the winner hit over 10,000 and stopped. Anything is possible in this game because it is all in the roll of the wrist. It is a very fun game.
Here is the website about it: http://home.houston.rr.com/agrant/farkle/farkle.htm

Clue is one of my favorites, but can be a bit slow with a larger group. Zobmondo is a really good party game too.
