I make $22 an hour. Does that mean I deserve a raise too?

What ... you wan't something for nothing? What have you done to deserve an increase? What kind of a job do you have? If you don't think you are being paid enough for what you do, go find another job! Life is a b*tch and nobody is going to give you any breaks if you don't show that you deserve 'em!

Increasing the minimum wage does nothing to help anyone. Minimum wage is exactly what it means - MINIMUM WAGE. Every time the minimum wage is increased, there is a distinct possibility that an employer will have to lay off a few of his workers in order to meet the mandated pay raise for the rest. Is that fair to those laid off?

These jobs are NOT intended to feed a spouse and children or make a career. They are "entry-level" wages that give a person somewhere to start in the job-market and then move on once experience and/or training and education is obtained for a better paying job.

I had a boss once who told everyone who works in my position at work that because our minimum wage was just forced up, we actually got a better raise than everyone else there, who makes more and got a cost-of-living raise. That's baloney, because we aren't seeing percentages, we're looking at the crappy bottom line.

I don't want you to think I disagree with you, that's just how it looked to me when somebody tried to do that to me, over here on the flipside... I think raises should usually be based on performance and loyalty, etc, not how much you're currently making.

As an aside, where I live (Washington state), the minimum wage is a whopping $7.63/hour, so we're not whining about the actual pay, but the principle of it. As an aside to that aside, a medium/small two-story house in a good neighborhood in a city over here will usually cost around $350,000. We need that higher minimum wage.

Because the job you have is market driven that's why. if you want to make more money, get an education and a career field where you can negotiate for your salary.

PS. Hard work, Education and dedication is what makes America great! You can be what you want to be in this great country of ours. But don't complain because your dead end job won't give you a kicker when the minimum wage goes up. If your that mad, do something about it, go to school!

Most of us only get raises when we are rewarded for great (not just adequate or good) performance. Even if I seek out a new job in order to get a raise, it is unlikely I'll get more money for doing the same thing the same way. Put in hard work, dedication to customers and commitment to quality. You will be rewarded by either your current employer or the one who gets to take you in because your current employer is too blind to see what you are contributing. The only reason any employer pays you at all is to get more business and make more money himself. You don't get raises for simply being present.

Find another job. I had to find my own raise every year. Made 5.25 the first year 7 years later I was making 12.00. My goal was to find a job paying $1 more an hour and I did it.

Noone ever said the world is/was "fair". Suggest you talk to your supervisor and discuss your performance and why you feel you deserve more $$$$$$ . Generally speaking that is the "rule of thumb". Best of luck. Hope you get your raise !!!!!!!!

Cry me a river. Don't like what you're making? Find a better paying job. What you're making is based on the market.

I sympathize, but you see your employer has just had a payroll cost increase. They are not going to volunteer to make it even higher.
