I had an epidural. I breastfed my daughter for about two months. I was I was 27 when I had her.
I had a bad experience with the epidural. They left it in after I gave birth, and I was numb on one side for a really long time. Other than that, I think having it during birth helped with the pain. It did slow the contractions down, so I had to wait longer until it was time to push.
I went into the hospital with every intention of giving my daughter breast milk through pumping, but I ended up giving breastfeeding a try, and it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. There were lactation consultants that helped a lot, even after we got home. I only stopped because I went back to work and it would have been difficult to get a schedule to pump and save breast milk. (I am a teacher) It really did help with her growth, and she didn't get sick at all for a long time.
I hope this helps!

With the first, I was 28 years old, had 2 shots of demerol, then had the epidural. I breastfed for 4 months and supplemented with formula from Day 1.
With the second, I was 31 years old, had 1 shot of demerol, then had the epidural. I breastfed for 4 months and supplemented with formula from Day 1.
The second labor went MUCH faster so that's why I only needed the 1 shot of demerol. I dilated faster.
Regards,
mari

i am 32 and i have 3 children all 3 of them were bottle fed, i had epidurals with 2 of them and a natual birth with 1 of them and i have to say the epidural births were the easiest of the 3 although i do still suffer backache at the spot were the epidural was adminstered. i never tried breast feeding and that was just a personnel choice that i made before the children were born, although my friend breastfed for 6mths and has done so again with her second child.
hope this helps.

With both I had 1 shot of demerol during labor -- late in the labor.
I breast fed for 2 1/2 months each time...until I went back to work and it was too difficult to pump in the bathroom at work! I also supplemented my son with formula starting at 1 1/2 months because I was not able to supply enough breastmilk.
I was 27, 29 and now at 39 am 21 weeks preg.

I had a spinal morphine, and every other drug under the sun, after sticking it out for 37 hours of natural labor.
I breast feed. It was fine the first couple weeks, then my nipples hurt like holy freaking poop hell until about 3 months, and since baby is still only 6 months old he still eats boob juice.
Iam 23.
Breastfeeding is the BEST thing to do. For baby yes, and for you.
Spinal Morphines are EXCELLENT. So is stadol, its like the best drunk you will ever be, although you remember nothing.

If you can do it breast feeding is the best. I breast fed my son. He is now 22. Breast fed babies are less apt to get sick and breast fed babies are smarter. It's been proven. My son is very intelligent. The epidural is up to you and the doctor.
